Rolyn and Lorena Garcia were our first farming family. In 2018 we started buying their coffee directly and paying a fair price above the commodity market, instead of the price set by the commodity exchange.

Rolyn, Lorena, and their farmers have completed a house, started a bed-for-the-bedless program, a literacy program, and a chicken coop thanks to your commitment to their coffee.

They taught us how Catholic Trade works: one family at a time, one harvest at a time.

What we learned with Rolyn and Lorena became our way of doing business: a Catholic economy in the spirit of Rerum Novarum, the 1891 encyclical of Pope Leo XIII. A fair price for the harvest, dignified work, families who keep their land, and a company that measures itself by the common good.

Along the way we bought harvests from other Catholic families in Nicaragua, and each one taught us the same lesson: when the price is fair, the whole village feels it.

Today our coffee comes from Guadalupe Farms, our own farm in Nicaragua, and from lots grown by Catholic coffee-farming families in Nicaragua and Latin America: coffee from the region, bought directly, with no middlemen. Our signature lot cups at 84 points on the SCA scale (specialty grade) and our special lots reach up to 89.

Every bag is roasted to order in the United States, and 100% of our margin goes back into Catholic Trade: reinvested in the farmers and the local communities where our coffee is grown.
