Beauty, ah beauty! Of the transcendentals (truth, goodness, and beauty), it is often beauty that has the most profound effect on the soul. This is because, unlike truth and goodness, beauty has the singular ability to disarm the beholder. It brings down defenses, melts icy hearts, and draws the soul heavenward. When a soul witnesses something profoundly beautiful it hits home on an emotional and spiritual level, not a logical or technical one. That which is beautiful or lovely speaks for itself; no apologetics necessary. This is precisely the reason why we, at Guadalupe Roastery, have taken such interest in sponsoring and helping to create and promote beauty in our world. We are excited that Catholic Vote has also taken such an interest in promoting that which is beautiful.
Shortly after founding our coffee company, Guadalupe Roastery, my husband was introduced (over the phone) to an artist named Dony McManus. Dony had a special ability to articulate why beauty matters. He also possessed the God-given gifts and talents to create beautiful pieces of artwork. My husband was drawn to the idea of capturing these gifts of Dony’s in film. He had just completed another video detailing the way that Guadalupe Roastery helps provide a better wage and dignity to the coffee farm laborers and farmers we buy our coffee from and the videographer we hired for that project, was also very interested in filming Dony. So, my husband and I packed up our three small children and flew to Ireland to meet Dony in person. It was a profound experience for us and the resulting video won the prestigious Catholic Art Institute Award on March 18, 2024.
